Do you know what is one of my biggest problems when it comes to my home? I get bored of looking at the same room set up after a few months. Are you like that as well?

With the change in season, I want my rooms to reflect my mood and the temperatures outside.  Summer for me is all about lots of light, colour and simple elegance, while winter would be warmer colours with a sense of coziness.

Does that I mean I keep changing my sofa upholstery whenever I feel my inner designer taking over? Of course not! It’s expensive to redo your furniture and definitely not a practical option. So what’s the best thing I have to work with?  My cushions – I have them all over – in my drawing room, in my bedroom, on the patio.

Now it doesn’t matter whether you live in a small apartment or in a sprawling bungalow, the one accessory that can speak volumes about your home are cushions. Their varied colours, textures and patterns really jazz things up and can make your sofa/chair a conversation starter.

I’ve put together a few tips on how you can spruce up your home with cushions.   So find your inspiration and curate your own happy space this summer.

Tip#1

The colour of your sofa can throw things awry. Let’s see what we can do about that. Do you have a grey sofa at home? Our recommendation would be to go for vibrant and bright colours, like our Rang and Amer cushion covers. A little fun and adventure via your cushions since your upholstery colour is simple and elegant.

For a beige/cream sofa, boosting the neural shades with these eye-popping colours like our Bukara and Seran cushions will really add to the character of your room.

Don’t worry if you have a navy blue/black sofa? We have some excellent suggestions for that too. Use of White/Cream/Gold accents against these colours will contribute to a tranquil, relaxed and cozy look.

Tip#2

Whether you are using cushions on your bed, sofa, wing chairs or a window seat, select a colour palette and stick to it. Combine – one simple print, one busy print, and one solid.

Tip#3

I understand that decorative pillows/cushions are really meant to add to the look and comfort to your upholstered furniture. But we’ve all sat down on that couch that is so packed with different pillows of shapes and sizes and designs that your seat area is greatly reduced. You will end up sitting on the edge of the sofa. Your home is ‘your happy and comfortable place’. The people who visit you should feel the vibe!

Tip#4

If your room already has a lot of patterns, like a patterned sofa, vivid curtains, or a rug which really stands out, take your pillow fabrics down a notch. Our solid velvet Sal cushions, available in four colours are a perfect unpatterned example with gorgeous colours and soft textures that can complete your look in an already busy room.

So now that you’re equipped with the knowledge, become your own designer and let your home reflect your mood and passion. Don’t forget to tag @Skyyliving on Facebook and Instagram when your guests love the look you’ve put together. Happy decorating!
